There are also many things you should look for when buying a diamond for your loved one.  We will briefly go over the 4 C’s of Diamonds for you: Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat Weight.

Cut:

Some gemologists say that the cut of a diamond is one of the most important parts that determine its fire and quality.  There are many different ways to cut a diamond,Antwerp Diamonds' diamond cuts are spectacular! but if you cut it too shallow or too deep, then the refracting light will bounce out of the bottom or sides.  The goal of cutting a diamond is to get the light to refract down into the diamond and then get it to come back up through its table.  There are also many other factors when cutting a diamond: the Diameter, Table, Depth, Crown, Pavilion, Girdle, and Culet.  All of these factors will determine the diamonds brilliance.

·         Depth The depth is the height of the diamond from the Table to the Culet, or from top to bottom.

·         Diameter – The diameter of a diamond is the width from one side to the other through the girdle, or middle, of the diamond.

·         Table – Usually at the top of the diamond, it is the largest surface area of a diamond.

·         Crown – The crown is the small band around the widest part of the diamond.

·         Pavilion – From the Culet to the crown, this would be the bottom portion of the diamond.

·        Culet – The Culet is the bottom tip, of facet, of the diamond, which cannot be seen to the untrained eye.

Those are the basics of the cut of a diamond, let’s move forward.

Color:
The color of a diamond is also referred to as brilliance or fire.  The less color you have in a diamond, the more brilliance or fire it will have.  The reason behind this is, a diamond acts as a light spectrum and will refract beautiful colors back out if acted upon by another light source.

The color of a diamond is based on a scale from D-Z.  Just like the alphabet, only it starts a D instead of A.  D would be the best color quality of a diamond and would be perfectly colorless.  A D scaled diamond would also be the more expensive that a E or G scaled diamond.  Z would be the exact opposite and have a dull brown color.  Diamonds scaled at D-J can be nearly colorless or fully colorless to the untrained eye.  Here at Antwerp Diamonds, we proudly only sell diamonds color scaled from D-J.

Colorless Almost Colorless You can start to see a faded brown. Hazy Brown is shown. Brown is fully seen.

Another great option we have in many of our diamonds, is fluorescence.  If you’re seeking that nice blue or other color fluorescence from a diamond, we will have it for you!

Clarity:
Clarity is another major factor most people look for in a diamond.  If people can see a lot of inclusions in a diamond,
Choose from great diamond rings and bracelets for Antwerp Diamonds!they will most likely move on to another one.  Clarity of a diamond is rated on a scale.  But instead of D-F, it is done like this:

·       FL/IF – The best clarity of a diamond, there would be any inclusions and would be flawless or internally flawless.

·        VVS1/VVS2 – VVS means Very Very Slightly Included and would be very very hard to the inclusions of the diamond under a 10x microscope.

·      VS1/VS2 – VS, as you may have already guessed, means Very Slighty Included.  Under a 10x microscope, the inclusions would be very slightly hard to find.

·        SI1/SI2 – You could easily see the inclusions under a 10x microscope, and to the untrained eye, you might be able to see them.

·        I1/I2/I3 – You could very easily see the inclusions under a 10x microscope and someone could easily see the inclusions.  Antwerp Diamonds does not carry any form of I1, I2, or I3 diamonds.  They are very low-grade diamonds.

A flawless diamond would be the most expensive diamond of the others, and would therefore be the rarest of diamonds.  Antwerp Diamonds sells great whole diamonds of great clarity of FL, IF – SL2.

Carat Weight:
The carat weight of a diamond is the total size of a diamond.  Offering customizable sized on most
We have many selections of Engagement and Wedding rings to choose from!of our diamonds, Antwerp Diamonds makes it easy for you to buy diamonds.  All the way for ¼ carat to a 5 carat diamond, Antwerp Diamonds carries it for you.  A 5 carat diamond would cost more than a ¼ carat diamond because finding a large tablet of diamond is much rarer than finding a smaller one.  Therefore, it will cost more for a 5 carat than a 1 carat.
